The students at Cholla High School are definitely all unique. From hairstyles to clothing, music to behavior, everybody is unique in their own way. No one here acts the same as anyone else because they’re all their own people. The people who do act similar usually tend to become friends, but even if they act similar and have similar interests, they’re still different in their own ways. A good example of this is the way people dress. While some people dress similarly, they still tend to find or do something to their outfits to set themselves apart from everyone.
I would say the most popular styles at Cholla are the “alt”, “skater”, and “takuache” looks. It’s no surprise that if someone sees a certain style, they like they’d go out of their way to replicate that style or buy clothes that they think would fit the style. The three styles that I listed are the most popular most likely because they’ve become trendy. Trends are obvious for a broad audience of people, so it’d be inevitable that people don’t dress similarly. I would say my sense of style has also been influenced by trends, but also by people I’ve been around. That could be the same for other people, as in they’ve seen a celebrity or friend have a certain style that they think looks good and try to wear it themselves. I don’t think people should feel shame for wearing whatever they since they’re their own person and should wear whatever makes them comfortable. Of course, people are going to have opinions on what they think is better than others. Not everyone is going to agree that one certain style is better than another, but it shouldn’t matter ultimately in the end.
I’ve been influenced by my friends. At first, I didn’t really care about clothes or styles, but after I became friends with people whose styles I thought were cool I started to look for clothes similar to theirs and started to care about the type of clothes I’d get.
Most clothing trends right now are influenced by style from earlier years like the early 2000’s. Styles can also determined by hairstyles, or sometimes for girls, their makeup. Although some people may seem to have a specific style, that doesn’t mean that they dress like that 24/7. Their style could differ depending on wherever they are. For example, if you were going to a formal event, I don’t think you’d be wearing sneakers or baggy clothing. You’d put something on that fits the mood of the setting you’re in. If not, then it might seem rude depending on the situation. If you were to go to someone’s wedding in baggy clothes or sneakers, I’m sure they’d think it’s rude. Ultimately people who dress the way they want shouldn’t care about what others think, but in my opinion it what you wear should be determined on where you’re going.
