Marching band is a community for individuals who are interested in music, making friends, and collaborating. In marching band, they give our school the majority of the music. They play at high school games, the graduation, and competitions. Marching band has practice every Tuesday and Thursday from 5 pm – 8 pm, but some students stay after school. During practice they practice their sets over and over until everyone has it down. They practice at the same time as color guards, and they collaborate. The effort and work put into Marching band is something people outside of it would not understand. “You do not understand how often I hear “Band is so easy, anyone can march and play an instrument.” Levi Fraijo told us.
In the marching band there are multiple people in charge, but mainly it is Mr. Rubin. The marching band represents our school positively and gives us free music! Marching band contributes to the school spirit “100%” Mr. Rubin said. They make sure to listen to each other when they are in a big area or outside, getting ready for performances. Additionally, after good performances, they celebrate!

The effort put into marching band is unexplainable, and all the students being interviewed agreed. Odin Aguilla informed us that he has only been there for a couple of months and is struggling. Band practice can go on for hours, especially if there’s a game after. Isabella Jackson suggested, “try marching and learning an instrument, learn everything.” The group we interviewed had different perspectives on which they preferred between learning the drills and learning the music. Majority said they preferred drills because they were longer but more fun, but one person preferred the music because it was easier.
The marching band students contribute to school spirit because they bring the music and are the football team’s biggest fans. The students we interviewed said their goals were to get into state championships, have fun and experience being in marching band, since some are just joining. Overall, the marching band brings a lot of the school spirit and is an important part of school.
