Cheerleading at Cholla High School has created a large impact on students and the school. The cheerleading squad has worked hard as a team over the years to create and gain spirit for the school and to help fundraise. Not only does cheerleading do good for our school, but it does good for the students and the cheerleaders themselves.

We have found that cheer has impacted the girls and our lives for the better. As junior cheerleaders that joined freshman year, it has added positive aspects to our lives. Cheer has taught us to strive for high ended goals, have patience, be confident to try new things, be confident in yourself, and to never give up.

Being in cheer over the past years has taught us many lessons that revolve around cheer, but also outside of it. It pushes us to maintain our grades, to keep a smile on our face, and to always hold a positive attitude and mindset. It was nerve racking to try out for it, but everything clicked once we did. We found it was an outlet to express our emotions and create a sisterhood bond with our team. Joining cheer can be intimidating, especially with no experience, but it is extremely worth it. A few of the new cheerleaders this year have demonstrated this.

Zadie Dill, a freshman on the team stated, “I wanted to join cheer for fun, but it has turned out to be more than that. Cheer has put an impact on me because it is difficult, and it taught me to have body control. My favorite thing to do is stunting because it helps me try new things. Cheer adds a positive aspect to my life because it helps me focus on myself and others around me. I view our team as a family that is safe”.

Adreanne Castillo, another freshman on the team says, “I wanted to join the team because my mom motivated me to. I didn’t want to at first, but now that I have been a part of the team I have learned to have more patience and to try out new things and it helps build my strength. I like to practice stunting because it helps create a positive mindset to be open to new experiences.”

Not only does cheer set up a workspace for us to learn new things and help us come out of our shell, it has created a family that we can all feel secure in physically and emotionally. Cheer has and will remain a place that will allow you to grow in life in a variety of ways.
