Jose (Joe) Garza is dedicated to ensuring the safety of the campus, making sure everyone goes home safely. When he sees something going on, he tries to get the individuals to talk separately and resolve the issue through better de-escalation techniques. Joe always makes sure to be visible and aware of everyone’s surroundings, staying mobile and busy to ensure kids go to class. He ensures the gates are open, makes sure kids make it on and off the buses, and overall makes sure they are safe. If a problem arises, he tries to resolve it on the spot but, if he can’t then, he takes the situation to the principal if necessary. Joe constantly checks in with students, maintaining a positive attitude even in tough situations. He believes in having a strong team and dedicates a lot of time to zoom sessions, courses, and quizzes to stay prepared for school-related challenges. Getting to know different kids by name takes time, but he finds it rewarding. However, dealing with students in trouble or suspensions is the least enjoyable part of his job.  

Raul Vega has dedicated 21 years to working as a monitor at Cholla high school, ensuring the safety of both the campus and its students. He maintains a secure environment by staying mobile, attentive, and positive. When students break school rules, he first tries to communicate with them and, if necessary, calls for backup and informs the office. Raul values building friendly relationships with students, which helps when it comes to redirecting those who may not want to listen. His least favorite part of his job is to keep having to correct students, but these relationships make it easier. He believes that students arriving on time and consistently doing what they need to do greatly simplifies his job.   

Paula Quezada plays a crucial role in keeping students safe. She gives directions to students, ensuring they are okay and offering help when needed. Paula encourages students to do well, no matter the circumstances, and keeps a positive attitude. She patrols different areas to ensure no unauthorized individuals enter the premises, constantly vigilant to maintain safety. Paula frequently reports to the office and assists students in getting to their destinations. She collaborates with other monitors to ensure safety on all fronts. Paula treats all students equally, communicates honestly, and maintains a positive demeanor despite challenges. She walks around, ensuring everyone is calm and okay, even when students test her patience. Paula expects respectful responses and does not tolerate low effort or disrespectful behavior, always ready to issue passes and maintain order.
